Second Year, Self Directed Summer Internship Program

Those students who have achieved the eligibility requirements listed below and have demonstrated a desire to pursue non-profit work are invited to continue as Second Year Interns.

Eligibility:

  • Successful completion of First Year Summer Internship Program.

  • Submission and acceptance of Fall Grant proposal.

  • Student has communicated interest to Forest Foundation regarding 2012 Summer Internship by January 2, 2012.

This is a unique opportunity for a Forest Foundation Intern to further their exposure and commitment to non-profits, expanding their co-curricular undergraduate college career to include two summers working and interning at non-profit agencies. Through our workshops and leadership development days, Forest Foundation Fellows can have a unique, protracted two year experience, creating a foundation for future excellence and success.

The Second Year Interns have an opportunity to create and self direct an internship position at a non-profit of their choosing. The location is geographically restricted within the United States and can be in the intern's college town, home, or other community. The internship position will be financially supported through a Forest Foundation grant.

The intern is encouraged to be creative and design an opportunity they would otherwise be unable to experience. This internship must have a significant impact on the community served. Programs that support the neediest of populations will have priority in the selection process.

The Specifics:

  • Starting January 1,  eligible interns should begin communication with Forest Foundation concerning their proposed internship and have the position fully planned and presented by March 1.

  • The student is responsible for all contacts, preparation, and facilitation of their proposed internship and will maintain contact with Forest Foundation throughout the process.

  • Internships must be conducted during the summer.  The time line is determined by the intern and needs to be approved by Forest Foundation.

  • Internships must fulfill the minimum 400 hour requirement.

  • Internships are funded at $4,000 and will be granted to the non-profit and paid out to the student.

  • Students are encouraged to incorporate this experience as a co-curricular learning opportunity as well as a venue to impact and enhance the lives of others.
