Internship Programs > Host Agency Hosting Agency
Forest Foundation supports emerging, grassroots, community-based agencies, which assist at-risk families and youth through advocacy for their physical and mental well being, housing, personal growth, and self-sufficiency.
Forest Foundation is offering twenty five, ten week paid summer internships for Essex County, Greater Lowell, and Greater Boston Massachusetts and Portland, Maine non-profit agencies.
This Internship Program supports non-profit agencies that:
- Need summer staffing to continue operations and implement projects
- Represent excellence in the local community
- Offer a nurturing, fun, and instructive work environment
- Are willing to provide a college student an exceptional, service filled summer
- Collaborate in the development and encouragement of leadership skills for the interns.
Host Agency Requirements
1. The organization must have the ability to provide meaningful work assignments, learning opportunities, time for training and supervision within the 10 week time frame (starting no later than June 8th, ending no later than August 13th).
2. An intern supervisor. Identify a staff member who is committed to and capable of developing people and who has time to supervise the intern. This person will act as the primary contact for the intern as well as Forest Foundation.
3. Provide an overview of the job, expectations, projects/tasks, qualifications and skills needed. Please complete the form here.
4. Forest Foundation grants the host agency $4,000 to compensate the intern for their ten weeks of work. These funds are solely for intern compensation. Payroll tax and administrative costs are to be absorbed by the host agency.
Intern Placement
Forest Foundation is responsible for the intern selection process and pairing with the host agency. Ultimately, the final decision to hire the intern lies with the host agency. Every effort will be made to ensure the best possible pairing of intern and agency. However, if the agency feels the match is inappropriate or unacceptable, an effort will be made to find an alternative intern. Consequently, a second candidate may not be provided due to the many criteria in the intern selection process.
While Supervising the Intern
1. Familiarize the intern with the work site. Introduce the intern to the mission, goals, and policies of the assigned department, as well as any unwritten rules and regulations. Introduce the intern to fellow employees and provide them with background information about the intern's projects and responsibilities. Involve the intern in activities and provide an educational experience beyond a typical "part time summer job", including job rotation, development of responsibility/authority/accountability, and attendance at meetings and conferences.
2. Contact Forest Foundation if the supervisor becomes aware of a personal or performance problem that is disrupting the intern's learning, performance, and/or position.
3. Both intern and host agency are expected to complete the respective evaluation forms and return to Forest Foundation by August 12th. These evaluations will not be shared, but used solely for the purpose of improving Forest Foundation's Undergraduate College Fellowship Program.
