Once students have succeeded, they are encouraged to enroll in our college-bound programs for help with Advanced Placement subjects and test preparation in a variety of core subjects aimed at college preparedness.
Location: Lawrence, MA
Responsibilities/Experie
nces:
We have a need for a major research project that we believe will allow Stand and Deliver to reach the next level (250-500 matches). Over the past 9 years, Stand and Deliver has matched over 800 Lawrence Public School Students with volunteer mentors who are professionals outside the field of education. We have anecdotal evidence that these students show improved attendance, get better grades, score higher on tests and stay in school longer than the general Lawrence Public School student population.
We need emperical and longitudinal data to prove our case. Our 2010 summer intern will conduct the research on the performance of the 800+ students who have participated in Stand and Deliver, compare it to their performance prior to getting a mentor and the performance of the general Lawrence Public Schools student population in the following areas:
1. Grades
2. Standardized test scores
3. Attendance
4. Level of education completed
5. Advanced Placement Courses
This information will allow us to prove to potential funders the value of the program and raise the additional funds needed to double the number of students we serve and the positive impact we have on the City of Lawrence.
