Internship Programs > Fall Grant Program
Fall Grant Program
The Fall Grant Program was created to encourage Forest Foundation Interns' involvement in their college or local community, develop grant writing skills, and to increase personal connections to local non-profit agencies.
Students will identify a non-profit in their community, engage the agency, identify a funding need, and help write a $1,000 grant.
After participating in the First Year Forest Foundation Summer Internship Program, interns will have a greater understanding of the non-profit sector. This program is an opportunity for students to build upon their learning and further immerse themselves in a local non-profit environment. Students will get to know the non-profit, evaluate its funding needs, and craft a grant proposal.
All proposals are to be submitted by November 1. The 5 most compelling and significant proposals will be granted $1,000 each.
The Process:
-
Upon completion of the First Year Internship Program, students are eligible to participate in the Fall Grant Program.
-
When students return to their college communities in August/September they may begin to research and locate a non-profit for which they will write a grant proposal for $1,000. The non-profit should have specific significance to the interns course of study, interest, or intellectual curiosity.
-
The non-profit must fit Forest Foundation's general granting guidelines, supporting at-risk and under-served populations, operating on budgets under $750,000 and effectively delivering critical services to the community.
-
Once a student has engaged and selected a non-profit, the student will work with the agency through the proposal process, gather the appropriate information, and submit Part 1 of Forest Foundation's Grant Proposal.
-
This submission must be received by November 1.
-
Notifications of the decision will be sent by November 30 and the check will be mailed to the student. The student will then present the non-profit with the check.
-
The student will then submit a one page report detailing their experience.
-
Those interns whose proposals are accepted will be eligible to craft their own Forest Foundation Second Year Summer Internship Position, detailed HERE.
*This program may work in concert with the student's academics as part of a class project or independent study with a professor. Forest Foundation is more than happy to verify our process with a professor for academic credit.
